Tournaments
Yendys @ Ribble Valley (14th June 2009)
Yendys Netball Club are considered to be one of the top netball clubs in the West Midlands. Junior and Youth section squads in U12s to U16s are continuing to their development and establishing themselves as competitive forces.
The Club’s Under-14 and Under-15 squads recently competed against some of the top teams in the North West at the Ribble Valley tournament in Lancashire. The Under-14s coming second in their group were denied a final’s place by Tameside’s U14s but the day saw some exciting competition including their one-goal defeat over stalwarts of the North-West: Oldham.
Tameside U15s faced Yendys U15s in their section and again in the final of the age-group. Walsall based West Mids Regional U16’s runners-up Yendys beat Charlestown 11-1, Capricorn 7-4, Denton ‘B’ 5-2, the eight-strong squad met their second closest rivals Darwen and stole an 8-7 win. Their last fixture in the group was against Tameside who took early control and pushed Yendys into second place in the group with an 11-5 win. Both Yendys and Tameside went onto face first and second placed in the other U15 group only to meet up in the final. Tameside went into a 5-1 lead in the first six minute half Yendys struggling to put up any contest. The second half went more in Yendys’ favour as they managed to stay on equal terms but victory eventually went to Tameside at 9-5; leaving Yendys in the runners up spot and reflecting on their encounter.
Under 19 National Clubs Competition
Yendys U19's took part in the National Club Under-19 Competition West Midlands Round on Sunday 12th October 2008 at Wolverhampton University (you can view the programme by clicking the yellow button below).
This competition attracted 9 teams from throughout the Region and all of these were of a high standard.
Yendys had a comparatively young side and possibly experience took in the end.
They played old rivals Molineux in their first match and struggled to find their normal flowing game. The first half was a low scoring tight game which turned round at 2 all. In the second half yendys struggled to score 3 more goals without reply. This was a positive start but they met their match in the second and third games, going down 9 -5 and 8-5 against Newcastle Town and Westside respectively.
After this Yendys started to improve with a draw against Henley and wins against Ryland and Dudley Leisure, before going down 11-9 against Tibberton and 9-5 against Parkside. In this last match Yendys gave Parkside one of the toughest games Parkside had had and Yendys were the only side that took the losing bonus point from them.
Good luck to Parkside and Newcastle Town in the National finals.
